Google blips
Last modified: Tuesday, January 13, 2009

A slang phrase used to describe flawed Google search engine results. The phrase first started being used in 2002 in reference to a "blip" where Google search results produced the Microsoft site as the top search result for"go to hell."

This type of blip had nothing do to with anything on the Microsoft Web site itself, but rather common phrases that other Web sites linking to the Microsoft Web site used, that boosted the site to the number one search result for that phrase.

Google blips: Search not always right
Google's site is famous for its "link analysis" method of producing search results. When users enter a word or term, they get back not just those Web sites containing that term but other sites that are linked to those that contain the word or phrase, in question.
